Interesting how you can find aspen even when you are not looking for them. Two more new records discovered here during a walk on Finnart Estate, South Rannoch. This one is the second furthest west in Highland Perthshire. In addition to the two here, there would appear to be several on the Allt Camghouran which forms the west boundary of the Black Wood of Rannoch, but the rain was too heavy to get a proper look at them with binoculars, and there were at least three more new records along the north shore of Loch Rannoch on the way home. Although it is possible to identify aspen at all times of year, it is hardest from a distance in the summer months. I will come back here again in October with binoculars and map out what else is around. The Rannoch/ Tummel area is clearly a little hotspot for the species.
