This group of about 30 aspen suckers lies just below the Forest of Birse kirk, at the top of the feugh, a tributary river of the Dee. As with most other aspen stands, they were just sitting here quietly, not drawing attention to themselves. This stand appears to be the furthest up in the Feugh system*. There is a lot of aspen on Deeside.
* Robin Callander of Birse Community Trust (BCT), has corrected me in that there are in fact some records right out in the headwater tributaries of the Feugh. BCT commissioned a survey of aspen stands throughout the parish of Birse in 2005, well ahead of the game on these things, as always!!
