These trees are going to be used as seed trees in the new enlarged polytunnel, below, where they will be artifically stressed to see if they can be induced in to flowering. Known clones have been grafted on to other aspen rootstock. These plants are two years old. This is an experimental operation, developed by the Forestry Commission. If it works, it will greatly increase the amount of native Scottish aspen available for planting.
