This thinning operation formed part of a recent demonstration event at Rothiemurchus Estate. Thinning the birch will allow the aspen to expand by suckering. (The aspen are visible behind the trailer - note the dark bark)The resulting firewood was extracted using Scottish Native Woods' Alstor mini-forwarder, ably operated by Simon Lockwood. Together, they more than proved their worth on this kind of site.
