Black leaves on aspen

Katy MacLeod from Tombreck on Loch Tay side is asking what has blackened the leaves of this young aspen sucker. Any answers as a comment please.

  1. Aspen is afflicted by a host of pathogens, including bacterial canker and Phellinus tremulae (a bracket fungus which causes heart rot. These black leaves are probably caused by Venturia, a fungus which frequently attacks suckers.
