Planting on some aspen seedlings at Camserney

This was us two weeks ago re-potting some aspen trees from the Highland Aspen Group nursery at Kincraig that were too small to be sold on last winter. The cell-grown trees were taken down to Camserney Community garden near Aberfeldy where there was more room to grow them on. The trees were all relatively small, but will be more sale-able and useful after being grown on in bigger pots this summer. The trees are from clones right across Scotland, and are all identified as such. There are 360 of these trees here, plus a replicate of 37 trees from the seed orchard, in case anything should happen their counterparts at RZSS in Edinburgh.

This is Camserney Community Garden contributing in a modest manner to the overall national effort involving aspen. The trees will generate interest in the species and impress upon the students the importance of good record keeping. We plan to set up a small nursery at Camserney this coming autumn, focused on Highland Perthshire.
