These two aspen trees are 17 years old and planted in a mixed woodland planting in N Ireland. They are clearly the most dominant trees in the plantation, much bigger than their neighbours and already almost at a size where they could be used for something. Aspen clearly has an important and useful role to play in any new woodland planting programme, if only we could satisfy the demand. These trees were also suckering from when they were three years old, hence areas can be restocked at minimal expense as long as too many browsers are not in evidence.
