Here are some photos of an aspen expedition up Glen Tilt in Perthshire, involving a (very careful) drive up ten miles following by a three mile walk right up in to the headwaters. Glen Tilt is very steep sided, and although these aspen remnants are fairly healthy, the woodland cover up here has long since disappeared, grazing levels are fairly high, and there is probably little scope for expansion up here. Atempts to gather root samples had to be abandonned as nearly all the remnants were too dangerous to access. Glen Tilt would be an excellent location to cycle up. Beautiful scenery, and the contours are not daunting. The road is accessed from the New Lodge at Old Blair. Unauthorized vehicle access is not permited, and not really recommended either as the road is quite rough in places.
