The Poplar Avenue in Aberfeldy

This is the well known Poplar Avenue in Aberfeldy. Following the demise of the original Lombardy Poplars through disease, the avenue was replanted in 1988 & 89 with native aspen, involving the local community, especially school children. There are 246 trees, one of the biggest single aspen features in the country, although possibly just one individual clone. The Scottish Community Woods Campaign helped co-ordinate the project, with ESA funding obtained through the farmer on whose ground the trees were planted. The SCWC evolved in to Scottish Native Woods in 1993.
