Everything about this tree says it is a planted aspen, but it is huge, probably 45-50 cms dbh and far taller than the mature beech tree to the left. We will check back again when the leaves are out.

Likely to be a hybrid, probably P. x canescens. Check bark texture (often more deeply fissured than tremula), more lower branches.
