Scottish Native Woods have received some grant assistance from the SITA landfill tax through the Tayside Biodiversity Partnership to revisit all the known Tayside aspen clones, check management information regarding these sites, and collect root-stock that can be used to propogate a number of these in nurseries through new, advanced techniques. The aim is to vastly increase the amount of aspen available for planting on Tayside.
The numbers associated with the photos below are the references to these sites in the national database for the species.
This site is at a road-end near Tulliemet, and a farm fence has allowed a new generation of aspen suckers to get away. This particular trip took me to Blairgowrie, back via Butterstone to Dalguise, Grandtully and Tulliemet, then re-traced my steps along Strathbraan to Amulree and Freuchie loch before heading back to Aberfeldy. About 130 miles in total..........all in a day's work for Scottish Native Woods.
